The catalysts for isocyanate-based polymeric foams include gelling catalysts, blowing catalysts, cyclotrimerization catalysts and etc. Metal catalysts promote mainly isocyanate–hydroxyl reactions and they are considered “gelation catalysts.” In contrast, tertiary amine catalysts accelerate mainly the water–isocyanate reaction, which generates CO2. And they are considered “blowing catalysts.
